From the first graph, it can be observed that the ratio of printed books’ reading has increased slightly, while that of printed newspapers’ and magazines’ reading has declined. In contrast, the ratio of digital reading has risen greatly. Besides, the second graph clearly shows that the proportion of digital reading has climbed from 24.50% in 2008 to 50.10% in 2013. In my opinion, a number of factors may account for the change. Firstly, e-books are more convenient than printed books. E-books are portable. You can carry a whole library of hundreds of books with you in an e-book device or a tablet, without worrying about their weight. Secondly, e-books can be interactive and contain audio, video and animations, which can enhance the message that the author is trying to convey. Thirdly, e-books save paper, thus relieving the strain we put on the environment when we make printed books in the traditional way. From what has been analyzed above, we may safely draw the conclusion that e-books are gradually gaining market share with their convenient, vivid and environment-friendly characteristics.
