Letters to the Editor
The article written by Vicky Mendel that appeared in last month’s issue of Metro Chic was fascinating. It featured various types of safe and fast weight-loss treatments. I work long hours and have no time to go to the gym, so learning about convenient ways to reduce weight really interests me.
Convinced by the article, I tried the radio frequency treatment. It is a non-surgical technology that breaks down fat cells by using a machine that emits radio waves deep into the layers of a person’s skin. At the same time, it reduces the appearance of cellulite and makes the skin look smoother. According to Ms. Mendel, she had the procedure done on her abdominal area and lost four inches around her waist after just one session.
Last week, I had my appointment to receive radio frequency treatment at the same clinic Ms. Mendel visited. The procedure was painless and took less than 30 minutes, but after measuring the results, I was disappointed to learn I had only lost one inch.
The physician at the clinic then told me that results can vary greatly and depend on the number of times a person goes in for treatment. Also, in order to maintain my desired figure, I would need to return for additional sessions on a regular basis. With each session costing $175, I find this treatment just isn’t worth the money. Other readers may have a different point of view.

What is NOT stated about radio frequency treatment?
选项
A、It lasts for about half an hour.
B、It may require several sessions.
C、It improves the appearance of a person’s skin.
D、It involves regular visits to a local gym.
答案
D
解析
本题应将题目选项中与radio frequency treatment有关的语句带回到原文中去查找并判断正误。由“The procedure was painless and took less than 30 minutes…”,可知每次治疗时间不超过30分钟,(A)与原文一致。由“The physician at the clinic then told me that results can vary greatly and depend on the number of times a person goes in for treatment. Also,in order to maintain my desired figure,I would need to return for additional sessions on a regular basis.”,可知诊所医师说治疗效果与每位患者接受治疗的次数有关,因此帕特森女士决定接受长期治疗,因此(B)也与原文一致。根据“…it reduces the appearance of cellulite and makes the skin look smoother.”,可知治疗可以减少皮下脂肪分泌,使皮肤看上去更加紧致,因此(C)也与原文一致。(D)在原文中未被提及。因此选(D)It involves regular visits to a local gym.。
