Where did the Pakistani government signed the agreement with tribal leaders?

Bush administration officials are to meet Thursday to discuss a new report by the National Counterterrorism Center. Officials say the report states that al-Qaida has found shelter in Pakistan since the signing of a peace agreement. The Pakistani government signed the agreement with tribal leaders in the country’s northwest. The report said the agreement effectively removed the government from that area and permitted terrorists to move in. The report also said al-Qaida has rebuilt its strength to a level not seen since 2001.

The former King of Afghanistan Zahir Shah has died in Kabul. He was 92 years old. Afghan President Hamid Karzai announced the King’s death. Mr. Karzai said the nation would observe three days of mourning. Zahir Shah became King when he was 19 years old. During his 40-year-rule, he gave the country a constitution, created an independent parliament and sought greater rights for Afghan women. The current government honored his efforts for Afghanistan by naming him the Father of the Nation.
