答案 Pessimism and Optimism The two drawings just stand in a sharp contrast, signifying two kinds of attitudes towards things in daily life. Indeed, most people are a mix of pessimism and optimism, but are inclined in one direction or the other. The journalists in the first picture look at the peacock in a negative way, whereas the individuals in the other picture observe the bird from a right perspective. Surprisingly, a sense of control and optimism is the litmus test for success. Pessimist feel like fate’s plaything and move slowly, if things are going badly. A pessimist fails to seek advice, since he assumes nothing could be done. Any studies suggest that his feeling of desperation undermines the body’s natural defenses, immune system. He does not take good care of himself. Feeling passive and unable to dodge life’s blows, the pessimist expects ill health and other misfortunes, no matter what he does. On the other hand, optimists feel in control of their own life. If things are going wrong, an optimistic person acts quickly, looking for solutions, forming a new plan of action and reaching out for advices. This person may think that he is better than the facts would justify—and more often than not, this is what keeps him alive. When studying women with breast cancer, medical experts discover that there is a longer disease-free interval, the best predictor of survival, among the women who are generally optimistic. In the light of the analysis, we should keep an optimistic attitude towards the ups and downs in our daily life. And We should learn how to maintain a sense of control and optimism. If only all journalists in the drawings viewed the beauty of the peacock from the bright side.
