答案Dear Mr. Mapes: The cost of providing auditing services to the divisional offices has always been a major concern of yours. When you mentioned at our last staff meeting that you wished we could automate some of the functions now performed by staff accountants, I looked into the cost and effectiveness of software that I thought would available to maintain certain divisional records and perform basic audit functions on the data. The result of my research is this recommendation that we purchase Act-II, a software package produced by CorpRec. Inc. Act-II comes as the first on the list of software that fit into our system due to a combination of several factors: user friendliness, cost-effectiveness, and past success in competing with its rivals. The package will cost $2, 125, and we will have to pay a semiannual maintenance fee of $75, which includes all updates. Enclosed is a description of Act-II and its capabilities, along with a list of firms currently using it. My assistant and I visited one installation at Letts Manufacturing, and we both think the system will be just what we need. I will be happy to discuss this with you at any time, Mr. Mapes. I do think the proposed software will help us meet your goal of reducing the cost of auditing in the divisional office. Sincerely, Joan Leutens
