    One summer my wife Chris and I were invited by friends to row down the Colorado River in a boat. Our expedition included many highly successful people—the kind who have staffs to take care of life’s daily work. But in the wilder rapids, all of us naturally set aside any pretenses and put out backs into every stroke to keep the boat from tumbling over. At each night’s encampment, we all hauled supplies and cleaned dishes. After only two days in the river, people accustomed to being spoiled and indulged had become a team, working together to cope with the unpredictable twists and turns of the river. I believe that in life—as well as on boat trips—teamwork will make all our journeys successful ones. The rhythms of teamwork have been the rhythms of my life...

The vivid account of their adventurous, brave and cooperative experiences is fairly admirable and thought conducive. In the truest sense, cooperation is gaining increasing recognition not only across China but also in other cultures throughout the world as well. Teamwork is what we cannot do without in all walks of life. For example, when we play basketball, obviously a game of teamwork, we should work together with each other. We discover that the outcome of the game depends on the joint forces of the team as a whole, combined with the efforts of some individuals or even famous stars. We are totally convinced that working side by side is the key to our success in getting over the ups and downs in our careers. We all work cooperatively on a number of endeavors in our lives as part of a family, as a citizen in a community, or as a member of an agreement, written or unwritten. To sum up, we should give teamwork its due weight. Too often we fail just because we ignore the undeniable fact that teamwork is indispensable to our success as well as our survival.
