答案 In this picture both the buyer and the seller are satisfactory with the deal: the former is glad because he gets a disk at a much lower price, while the latter’s enjoyment comes from the profits he makes by selling the pirated product. It seems that the piracy has benefited both sides, hence flood of pirated videodiscs, books, and software in the market. However, we get off on the wrong foot if we only see the surface of this phenomenon. There are many reasons for my position but the following are sufficient. To begin with, piracy is equal to stealing in term of value of the product, which will do harm to the inventors, designers, producers or writers alike. On the other hand, pirated products will, in the final analysis, incur greater expenses on the part of the customers, as there are no after-sale service. Worst of all, piracy, if not cracked down on, will have serious effects on all walks of life, especially the intellectual industry. Because of the loss of profits, the investors’ as well as the producers’ enthusiasm flags, which will lead to less fund for researches, and shrinkage of the whole industry and bigger unemployment rate. Therefore, it is high time to start the battle against piracy. First of all, stringent laws and regulations should be made and enough measures for enforcement be taken. Secondly, public awareness against piracy must be enhanced. Otherwise, our prosperous market will disappear and our economic reform will fail.
