Once ambition has been formed, it becomes an indispensable part of one’s personal character. Ambition is the character possessed by everyone. Ambition is not a synonym for selfishness, though some ambitious people are selfish. So it includes not only the pursuit of fame and fortune, but also the pursuit of one’s own value, the well-being of others and the knowledge about universe. Ambition gives a man the hope to live on and the power to push on, and propels him to a higher stage of life. It is also an indication of self-esteem and self-confidence. If people lack ambition, they would never reach full potential. Ambition implies hope, discipline, courage and many other qualities. In many cases, it can open up opportunities for people. However, ambition is not equal to success. Great ambition and great action are inseparable. Great ambition leads Golumbus to America and the Apollo Project which enables men to land on the moon, but without action, these feats would have remained grandiose dreams. One should not sit back and wait. It is important to take action when one is young. Great ambition and great action make a great man.
