Teaching Key and Difficult Points: Differences between AE & BE. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Leading-in (5 minutes) Introduction about differences between AE and BE. Step 2 Discussion (30 minutes) Ask Ss to list the countries that use English as an official language and then have a discussion with their partners. Why do so many people speak or learn English? The reasons to learn English: to use for business to use in school to travel abroad to read English books to write to pen friends to listen to English music to pass entrance exams to college to communicate with foreigners (Justification: Let students know that English is very important and useful in our life. In the process of discussion, students can develop their speaking ability.) Step 3 Summary (5 minutes) 1. There are different kinds of English in the world, from which we can have great fun. 2. Since English is very important, we should try our best to learn it well from now on. (Justification: Make a conclusion and emphasize the importance of learning English.) Step 4 Homework (5 minutes) Write a composition: Why should we learn English? (Justification: Homework is of importance for students to master the knowledge they have learned in class. It will check whether the students achieve the teaching objectives.)
