    Determining where these changes could occur is critical for long-term planning purposes, including where to invest in new wind farms and what to expect from existing ones. And if the new study is accurate, both natural climate cycles and the ongoing impact of global warming should be taken into account.
    [A] Although previous theories for global terrestrial stilling included urbanization, vegetation changes or both, the study found that it’s more likely that forces associated with "decadal variability of large-scale ocean-atmospheric circulations" are responsible for the wind speed variation.
    [B]But if that were the case, wind speeds should still be slowing down now—not speeding up.
    [C] For instance,  the researchers found that wind speeds tend to be slower across much of the
    Northern Hemisphere when temperatures are warmer in parts of the tropical Atlantic and the western Pacific and over Greenland.
    [D]If the trends persist for the next decade, wind power from a single turbine would rise to 3. 3 million kilowatt hours in 2024, an overall increase of 37%.
