Woman: I always make a list of the products that will compete with my invention. Comparing my product’s strengths and weaknesses with those of my closest competition can make me get a good idea of the marketing challenges I face. Also, I examine how these companies market their products, including the media they use and the message their sales literature contains.

Man: Well, I just look for a group that can afford my product and most likely needs it. And I check the demographics of my competition and look for industry demographic statistics for comparative information. By focusing my marketing efforts on a specific segment of the population, I can increase the likelihood of sales because I’m targeting those mostly likely to buy my product.

Woman: As a matter of fact, I was speaking of creating packaging and promotional materials that would reflect the character of my products and my target market. I believe a successful brand strategy increases sales by making the product visible and accessible to the people most likely to buy the product.

Man: Well. I have tried several different marketing methods, like door-to-door sales and telephone. Since more and more people are browsing Internet more than before, I finally realise it’s a great idea to take advantages of Internet to market my products. And now, I have a professional-looking website, where people can buy my products. And it turns out great: this website helps me attract a lot of customers.

Woman: Before the full product launch, I simply show marketing material to prospective customers and gauge their reaction to the content, message and whether they would be likely to purchase my product based on the information. And I also have those prospective customers test the product’s features and then ask them if they are willing to purchase it at my price.
