Should Peking Opera Be Made Compulsory?
选项
答案
Should Peking Opera Be Made Compulsory? Not long ago, the Ministry of Education launched a project to include Peking Opera into music courses in primary and secondary schools throughout China. The move immediately stirred great controversy among the public. Opinions on this issue vary from person to person. Some people are in favor of the project wholeheartedly. They maintain that it helps promote traditional culture since Peking Opera is deemed one of our nation’s unique cultural relics. However, others are strongly against it. They argue that students should not be forced to learn Peking Opera, a sophisticated art form, which requires years of professional training. And their choices need to be respected. From my perspective, Peking Opera can be taught in schools, not as a compulsory course, but as an optional one. On the one hand, its introduction into schools enables students to appreciate it better, thus cultivating their aesthetic capacity. On the other hand, adding it into the current curriculum increases. students’ academic burden which has been already heavy enough. Therefore, it may be feasible to set Peking Opera as an optional course so that students can enjoy more freedom to decide whether to learn it or not.
