Should immigrants accept the local culture as their own? This has been intensely discussed for years. The following are the supporters’ and opponents’ opinions. Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your view on the issue.

YES
By accepting the new notions and lifestyles, you can easily survive and enjoy a comfortable life in a foreign country.
It is necessary for immigrants to adapt to the new culture and society, because it may impose an adverse influence on their living and study if they cannot be socially adaptable.
To keep oneself in a separate minority group may bring about negative outcomes such as hostility and resentment. It will undoubtedly exert a negative impact on the immigrants’ relations with others.
NO
It is now generally acknowledged that cultural diversity should be considered a strength for a nation as people from different backgrounds will have a chance to learn from one another.
It is significant for people to maintain cultural diversity and pass their culture on to their offsprings. Meanwhile, it would be a pity for the descendants to know nothing about the culture of their ancestors.
It is necessary for immigrants to form a group with people who share the same values and lifestyles, because they are in a foreign country and are actually a minority with little power, many of whom don’t even have equal rights. Therefore, it is wise for them to join together to enhance their strength and cope with social problems.

Should Immigrants Accept the Local Culture? In many countries, the issue of the integration of immigrants remains a contentious topic. It has been proposed that immigrants should accept the new culture as their own so that they can rapidly adapt themselves to the society. However, immigrants are also encouraged to keep their own cultures, which helps to preserve cultural diversity in their host countries. As far as I’m concerned, I hold the point of view that immigrants should learn the new culture while keeping their own. On the one hand, immigrants have to learn the local culture so that they could become a part of it and fit into the mainstream of the society, and this will prove to be rewarding when they finally make local friends and find a decent job. On the other hand, it’s imperative for immigrants to retain their own culture in an era of globalization, since cultural diversity inspires different cultures to influence and complement each other, thereby enriching our lives and advancing human civilization. In short, living in foreign countries, immigrants need to get accustomed to the dual culture. Hence, they can lead a life with both cultures simultaneously instead of simply accepting this one and rejecting that one.
