It has been proposed that immigrants should accept the new culture as their own so that they can rapidly adapt themselves to the society. However, immigrants are also encouraged to keep their own cultures, which helps to preserve cultural diversity in their host countries. As far as I’m concerned, I hold the point of view that immigrants should learn the new culture while keeping their own. On the one hand, immigrants have to learn the local culture so that they could become a part of it and fit into the mainstream of the society, and this will prove to be rewarding when they finally make local friends and find a decent job. On the other hand, it’s imperative for immigrants to retain their own culture in an era of globalization, since cultural diversity inspires different cultures to influence and complement each other, thereby enriching our lives and advancing human civilization. In short, living in foreign countries, immigrants need to get accustomed to the dual culture. Hence, they can lead a life with both cultures simultaneously instead of simply accepting this one and rejecting that one.
