Gardens Are Not Made by Sitting in the Shade Rudyard Kipling’s remark "Gardens are not made by sitting in the shade." means if you don’t pay efforts, you can hardly get any harvest. For me, it is very true and inspiring indeed. When it comes to building a house, for example, if you are just idling days away by thinking about how wonderful the house will be, you can never have it done. Only by careful planning, making layout, picking materials and starting to implement, can you eventually make things happen. Here I have another instance, which happened to one of my friends, Jenny. She was dreaming about becoming a jazz dancer all day long and she had a great passion for it. However, she never practices by herself or follows a course. What she would do was just talking, talking, talking,... about the glamour of this profession, the excitement of performing on the stage, or the feeling of satisfaction when applauded by the audience. Pitifully, two years later, when everybody else started to be fed up with her "dream", she was still nothing but a great talker. As Kipling implied, you’ll never get gardens made by sitting in the shade. Similarly, you’ll never win a single success by doing nothing but dreaming.
