Over the 100 years since the birth of the modem Olympic movement, China’s relationship with this peerless event has changed dramatically, moving from the position of ignorant outsider to active participant, to outstanding performer. China should be the organizer of the 2008 Olympics. First, Beijing will have completed the construction of all the venues and facilities for the 2008 Olympics by the end of 2006. The organizers have decided the architectural plans of such venues as the National Stadium and selected developers of eight major construction projects. Second, Beijing, with a history of more than 3,000 years, offers a typical example of Chinese traditional culture. The 2008 Olympics will help deepen the communication of the Eastern and Western cultures and enable the Oriental culture to exhibit its charm to the world. Third, Beijingers are hospitable people. Many sports enthusiasts can make the competition more dramatic. Hosting the 2008 Olympics is their common wish. It is recognition of China in the world economy. It is also a chance to gain honor and to let people all over the world know Beijing and love Beijing. With the forceful support of the people in all aspects, the Beijing government will surely succeed in holding the 2008 Olympics.
