答案
(1)In the past decade, people have witnessed the enormous pace of change in their life, and they believe that change has been and will always be a fact they have to face. Some people prefer to live in the same place, do the routine work, and have(2)a fixed circle of friends. Familiarity blesses people with(3)a sense of security, and it is the shelter they could always retreat to whenever a tide of changes is(4)looming ahead. Besides, people hold tight to a stable life to escape from the slightest possibility of making mistakes or shouldering risks. At first glance, avoidance of changes may seem the best policy in the(5)ever-changing world. But such kind of attitude is impractical and short-sighted when the nature of modern society is taken into consideration. The only thing that does not change in the 21 st century is change itself, which is driven by technological developments and scientific breakthroughs in every aspect of our life(6)on an almost daily basis. It is change that significantly promotes living standards, and thus adds colour and excitement to modern life. (7)However, people with a clear mind are conscious of the problems change imposes on them. Industrial waste,(8)deforestation, acid rain and PM2. 5 are the(9)byproducts of modernization. It is wise, therefore, to have a thorough understanding of the pros and cons of change and make the most of it.
