North Korea says it does not need to meet directly with Japan during 6-party nuclear talks next week. The official North Korean news agency reported a North Korean objection to Japan’s demands that the talks include North Korea’s kidnapping of Japanese citizens during the Cold War period that followed World War Ⅱ. A South Korean diplomat said Friday that the talks would involve only nuclear disarmament and not other issues. He said the countries taking part in the talks have agreed that North Korea’s human rights record should not be discussed.
