What did China criticize Canada for?

China has criticized Canada for withdrawing from the Kyoto Protocol, the international agreement to fight climate change. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman called the move "regrettable". The spokesman added that Canada should in his words "face up to its responsibilities". On Monday, Canada became the first country to officially withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol. Canada said the agreement was not in its interest and would not help end rising temperature in the earth atmosphere. Under the Kyoto Protocol, industrial nations promise to reduce carbon dioxide and other gases linked to rising temperature. But it does not require developing nations to take action to fight climate change.
