   It seems that all his life Edward had wanted to become an expert fisherman, but owing to his work, he was unable to satisfy his desire completely until he retired.    He found a clear, running stream lined with pebbles, baited his hook, cast his line carefully and sit down to wait. It was a warm day, patchy with sunlight and scudding clouds—a fisherman’s day. The sunlight danced on the white stones on the river bed, the river chattered merrily and Edward, patient and content, sat waiting for a bit. He sat so long in fact that after a while he could scarcely remember why he had come.
   Presently there was a little flurry in the water and then a flash of silver as a salmon leaped.
