Nowadays more and more people spend their leisure time traveling, having sightseeing of the beautiful spots and places of historic interest. The Three Gorges on the Yangtze River are a must for visitors both at home and abroad. But so far not very many people know well those gorges and the beautiful scenery there. Travelers and tourists want to know more about them so as to make preparations for their future visit there.

In the first part of your writing you should present your thesis statement, and in the second part you should support the thesis statement with appropriate details. In the last part you should bring what you have written to a natural conclusion or a summary.

Sweeping down from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for about a thousand miles on a winding course, the mighty Yangtze River, cleaves a passage in the middle reaches through a gap in the Wushan Mountains that lies athwart its course, cutting the towering mountain range in two and then rushing down east to the sea. Where the mighty River and the towering mountain range intersect, almost at right angels, the high and steep mountain peaks glare down on the turbulent waters of the Yangtze below from their precipitous heights, presenting a most majestic and awe-inspiring look, while the river, forcing its way down the narrow gorges between high and steep rocky peaks, roars and booms in uncontrollable anger. This section of the Yangtze River is one of the most famous natural wonders in the world-the Three Gorges. What is collectively known as the Three Gorges refers to the Qutang Gorge, the Wu Gorge and the Xiling Gorge that begins at Baidi Cheng in the County of Fengjie in Chongqing and ends at Nanjin Guan of Yichang in Hubei Province, stretching along a distance of 204 km between precipitous rocky mountains that drop almost perpendicularly into the river, looking as if hewn by an axe. Many of the mountain peaks tower as much as 500 meters high above the river and some reach heights of over a thousand meters. The waters of the Yangtze, struggling between towering wall-sided cliffs, rushes down in whirlpools, rapids or eddies and pounds on the banks in desperate rage, throwing up surging white foam and creating a sight of spectacular grandeur. Apart from the above scenic spots and places of historic interest, there are many other attractions, such as Shibao zhai, Baidi Cheng (City), Zhang Fei Temple, Fengdu Ghost City and so on so forth. The present day’s Three Gorges are being blocked to allow construction of the world’s largest water control project. Upon its completion, the Three Gorges Project will have its main benefits in flood control, power generation and navigation. Considering the fact that the reservoir will flood some historical sites and ruin the legendary scenery of the gorges when the water level rises, the government has taken measures to preserve most of the places and sites of historic interest. As a result, many historical sites are being moved to higher places for reconstruction. In this way, not only will the previous sites of historical interest and places of local natural scenery represent their scenes, but also some new attractions will be added for tourists to visit.
