Describe a course you took in your college or university. You should say: what it was when you took it what you learned from this course and explain why you took this course. I took many courses in university but what impressed me most was a debating course. I joined the course in my sophomore year among many other selective courses. I chose it because I have watched many debating competitions and was interested in it. I think this course has given me at least two benefits. Firstly, it was a course given by an American teacher in English, so I had to practice my listening and speaking abilities to follow the teacher. I was not used to it in the beginning but I worked very hard in learning the language. I believe my English has improved a lot after that semester. Secondly, the course offered me new perspectives on debating. Before, I thought debating was only for competition and was useless in real life. But this course taught me that debating was a way of thinking, or critical thinking as it is called. It helped me to consider the both sides of the coin before making decisions. I believe this ability was key to everyone. In that course, we also watched videos of the TV debate of the US presidential election, which were quite impressing to me. It really deepened my understanding of debating as a way of thinking. The course also taught me to be open-minded and always be ready to accept new ideas. I really liked the course.
