Interlocutor: —I’m going to give each of you a choice of 3 top its. I’d like you to choose one of the topics and give a short presentation on it for about a minute. You will have about a minute to prepare for this and you can make notes if you wish while you prepare. After you have finished your talk, your partner will ask you a question. —All right? Here are your topics. [Interlocutor hands each. candidate a different topic card, and some paper and a pencil for notes] Interlocutor: —Choose one of the topics to talk about. You can make notes. [1 minute’s preparation time. Both candidates prepare their talks at the same time, separately.] Interlocutor: —All right now. Candidate Two, which topic have you chosen, A, B or C? Would you like to talk about what you think is important when managing personnel? [Candidate Two talks] Offering incentives to staff is of key importance in personnel management. It helps to keep people satisfied with the company’s management. As a result, workers are likely to be more industrious if their needs are met, and their problems are solved. Proper incentives are very effective in motivation. They will be more initiative in their daily work, which leads them to think and act in a way as if they are the owners of the company. Thus, the morale is heightened. Consequently, the goal of an increased productivity and an improved interpersonal relationship is easily achieved. People’s enthusiasm will be inspired greatly, which is one of the most significant objectives of the incentive system. Interlocutor: —Thank you. Now Candidate One please ask Candidate Two your question about his/her talk. [Candidate One asks question.] What a manager should do when offering incentives to staff? Candidate Two: Well, First, good manager should create incentives to staff. Second, I think he or she should set a good example for all staff to follow. To some extent, it is also an incentive. Interlocutor: —Thank you. All right. Now, Candidate One, which topic have you chosen, A, B or C? Would you like to talk about what you think is important when encouraging team work? [Candidate One talks] There are many aspects to be taken into consideration when we want to encourage teamwork in a company. Firstly, it’s significant to identify staff with the goals or objectives the team is about to achieve, and to keep everybody well informed and always bear them in mind. Secondly, we should as encourage cooperative work to which we have paid little attention over the past years. Everyone should be told the necessity of learning from each other. People have to get to know no one is perfect in the world. If we really realize the importance of identifying goals and learning from each other, we may get an enormous reward on achievements. Interlocutor: —Thank you. Now, Candidate Two, please ask Candidate One your question about his/her talk. [Candidate Two asks question.] which one of the two factors mentioned above is more important ? Candidate One: I think identifying goals is more important than learning from each other. Interlocutor: —Thank you [Materials are collected]
