This picture reflects two distinct attitudes towards knowledge. Such difference exists because people judge achievements from different angles. Some people are modest. They see an achievement as a ticket to greater success. Such positive attitude can help them establish ambitious life goals, overcome obstacles and then achieve enormous success. For example, Madame Curie, a world-renowned female scientist, was awarded twice the Nobel Prize for Physics and Chemistry, two totally different research fields. If she had stopped conducting further study, she would not have achieved unequalled success in the history of science. In contrast, some people are complacent. They consider an achievement as the ultimate success. With this attitude, their personal growth will be surely stunted, meaning that they can only have limited achievements. As Seneca, an ancient Roman philosopher, commented, almost any situation—good or bad—is affected by the attitude we bring to. Obviously, it is valuable and advisable to adopt modest attitude. Only by keeping modest, can we enjoy a fulfilling life.
