As a recent survey indicates, over 80% Chinese female informants believe that if you want to date a girl in China, your monthly salary should be over 4,000 RMB. Otherwise, you cannot support the date or bring happiness to your lovers. In your opinion, why are many Chinese girls so outspoken about their salary requirement for maintaining a relationship? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.

Sadly, Money Is Important Although it seems shallow and unromantic to talk about money when it comes to love and relationship, it is true that economic foundations are very important in maintaining a relationship. In my opinion, the reason why Chinese girls now are outspoken about the salary threshold to their pursuers lies in that salary is the basis of successful dates and a promising future. To start with, acceptable monthly salary serves as the basis of successful dates. It is unarguable that with the soaring price of almost everything, money has already become a main concern when it comes to dating, the first phase of a relationship. In fact, dating often involves comparatively high level of expenses which may not be affordable for those with low salaries. For example, movies, decent restaurants, fine coffee houses and traffic expenses all compose a necessary and expensive part of dating. Moreover, increasing trend of commercialization of festivals also means that young lovers have to spend more money in celebrating these festivals. For instance, young people often have to spend a lot of money in buying their lovers nice gifts on Valentine’s Day, Chinese Valentine’s Day, Christmas, New Year’s Day, etc. Failing to do this often means failing to please the girls they adore. Therefore, to have great dates, one important thing is to have enough money. Secondly, a good salary also promises a better future to deepen a relationship. If all go smoothly, lovers will have to consider getting married one day, which often leads to complicated procedures and often rigorous requirements. Nowadays, these procedures and requirements usually cost a lot of money. With a decent income and a considerable economic foundation, many related issues such as housing and wedding ceremony can be much easier. On the contrary, without a good salary, it may be very difficult for young lovers to form a new family. Out of all these practical concerns, it is understandable that a girl sets up a salary threshold for her future boyfriend in order to make their relationship more promising. In conclusion, economic concern is an important factor in the development of a relationship from dating to marriage. Although talking about money might seem unacceptable, we have to acknowledge that setting up a salary threshold, when starting a relationship, is sadly a natural choice for many Chinese girls.
