答案 Aged People Tend to Live Alone Recent years have seen a tendency that more and more aged people prefer living alone. In the past, aged people liked to live with children and grandchildren in an extended family. However, things are quite different now. Many aged people hope to see their married children living independently if condition permits. Why do aged people tend to live alone? There are several reasons for this change. For one thing, with the social and economic development, the old traditional idea of keeping several generations under one roof is out of date. For another, guaranteed by social security and medicare, old people, most of whom are strong and healthy, do not feel like to be taken care of by others. Furthermore, by living alone they may avoid unpleasant quarrels resulted from the generation gap. Obviously, the aged people’s preference to living alone indicates the improvement of living standard and their new attitude toward life. In my opinion, their choice should be respected. But living alone does not mean refusing help, nor insulating from their children. Instead, they need more care and concern from their offspring and the whole society. I believe that it’s up to the government and the society to see to it that the aged citizens spend a happy time in their rest life.
