The chart below gives information about the percentage of the adult population who were overweight in four different countries in 1980, 1990 and 2000.(Figures are given for the year, or the nearest year available.)
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

答案This chart shows changes in the proportion of overweight people in the adult population of countries in four different regions in 1930, 1990 and 2000. First of all we can see that Japan had the lowest proportion of overweight adults in all three given years. It also showed the smallest change across the period, rising only 1% to reach 3% by 2000. Both Finland and Australia had over 5% of adults overweight in 1980, but the increase in figures for Australia was much greater in the following decades, rising to 11% in 1990 and almost doubling Finland at 21% in 2000. However, the highest proportion of overweight adults in each of the given years was in the USA. The percentage rose from 15% in 1980 to a dramatic 31% in 2000. Overall, the chart shows that the proportion of overweight adults is rising in all four countries, but the scale of the problem is greater and the rate of increase much higher in Australia and the US.
