答案 The population explosion is one of the most serious problems we are facing nowadays. The limited productivity and scarcity of world resources can hardly meet the needs of a big population. As is illustrated in the first cartoon, when there is a small population, our earth can provide adequate food supply and shelter space. But in the second picture, when there are too many people on this planet, our earth could not provide a comfortable support for such a big population. Frankly speaking, the developing countries are most responsible for the overpopulation. First of all, industrialized countries have reached zero increase or even minus increase in their population , while a majority of developing countries have a birth rate of a-bout 43 per thousand. On the other hand, the majority of people in developing countries live in poverty. Per capita income is far below the world’s average, and economic development in most countries is lingering, and population explosion will further hinder the improvement of living standards. Finally and most importantly, although sensible experts and officials in developing countries are deeply concerned about the situation there, most people in developing countries are still not aware of their troubles. The first way, the last way and the never-failing way to solve the problem of overpopulation is to exercise birth-control in developing countries. In fact, many countries have already set up family planning programs to check the rapid growth of population. In China, for example, the one-couple-one-child policy has been accepted by most families and the birth rate is much lower than before. It is quite possible that birth control can help the world to solve its problem of the population explosion.
