Over the last twenty years, the English language has become the nearest thing to an international language for the world. Since 1960 there has been an increase of 40% in the people using English, so that it is now estimated that approximately 350 million people speak English as there first language, and about the same number of people speak it as their second language. It’ s the language of aviation(航空)with pilots being trained in English so they can understand flight controllers at international airports across the world. It’ s the language of sport with many international rules and commentaries(评论)being written and given in English. It’ s also the language of pop music because it rhymes easily and the words are short. And moat popular music groups come from America or England. In addition, 75% of the world’ s mail is written in English: 60% of the world’ s radio stations now broadcast in English. Forty-four countries have English as their official language.
