答案 As the chart shows, a person’s need could be classified into five general groups: physiological needs, safety needs, social needs, esteem needs, and the need for self-actualization. Besides, being in different stages people would focus on different needs. To be exact, in the subsistence stage, physiological needs and safety needs are more prominent, while social needs and esteem needs are more pronounced in the moderately well-off stage. The need for self-actualization is a priority in the well-off stage. This five-needs-and-three-stages model is meaningful and helpful for one to better understand and identify others’ most urgent problems in different stages. For instance, for those who still live in abject poverty, they are in dire need of food, clothes and shelters. If we give them concert tickets, it would be absurd and unhelpful. And for those who already have full access to abundance of food, it is equally absurd to offer them more food. In conclusion, a person’s need is heavily related to the stage he or she is in. It’s advisable that we offer people things they are desperate for.
