A Richmond County deputy was forced to think quick on her feet when she helped an Augusta couple deliver their baby on Christmas morning—in the car! Deputy Tricia Bourne heard a call come in saying a man had pulled over into the parking lot of Advanced Auto Parts off of Deans Bridge Road. His wife was in labor and the baby wasn’t waiting. Bourne said besides giving birth to her own kids, she didn’t have any experience in delivering babies. But, she wanted to help in any way possible. “I really didn’t have time to do anything but react. The baby was coming, whether we liked it or not,” said Bourne. Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene a few minutes after baby Elias was born. Both Elias and mom were taken to University Hospital and are doing well.
