答案 My Views on Whether Government Should Invest More on Scientific Research Globally, scientific research contributes a lot to national and social development. Some people believe that our government should spend more money on scientific research and less on other things. I hold it that our government should keep a balance between expenses on scientific projects and other things. Scientific research does bring about lots of societal benefits and thus should be a high priority. For example, advances in medical technology have helped substantially cure and prevent diseases while advances in educational research have helped upgrade teaching facilities and improve teaching efficiency. All these facilitate people’s living standards and life quality, so our government should continue to invest a lot to accelerate scientific research. However, this is not to say that other projects should be given lower priority. Besides scientific research, our government should also take account of other important issues, such as investment in public infrastructure, education, old-age care and the like. These areas are also indispensable for a harmonious and balanced society. They may not immediately address society’s pressing social problems, but in the longer term, it might be necessary to keep balanced expenses on scientific research and other things. Only by combing scientific research and other projects, can we reap a balanced and harmonious society. To conclude, I would argue that our government should primarily monitor and control scientific research while never ignores the development of other projects. In particular, more expenses should be spent in terms of scientific development in fields such as the military, medicine, aviation, and education.
