Traditionally, teachers in kindergartens are dominantly female, but now male teachers are exceptionally popular in China. What’s your opinion? Do you think it is a good idea to hire more male teachers in a kindergarten? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.

Kindergartens Need a Touch of Masculinity Speaking of kindergarten teachers, people commonly think about tender female ones who take care of children like a mother. However, recently male kindergarten teachers are getting increasingly popular in China. As far as I am concerned, the popularity of male kindergarten teachers is a good sign that helps to better the comprehensive education in kindergartens and that reflects the trend of gender equality. First and foremost, having male teachers in kindergartens is beneficial to the comprehensive education of children. While it is undeniable that females make very good kindergarten teachers since they are patient, loving and good at taking care of children, male teachers add more masculine features to kindergarten education as a whole. For example, male teachers are better at outdoor activities and physical education. Unlike female teachers who are usually better at arts and music, male teachers can teach children basketball, football and Tai Chi, sports that are apparently helpful to both the physical and psychological development of children. Research has shown that male teachers are much loved by children because of their outgoing and extrovert personality. Furthermore, male teachers can also teach children to be stronger and tougher when faced with problems. In a word, male teachers serve as a very good complementation of female teachers and help to better the education quality of kindergartens in general. Secondly, hiring male teachers in kindergartens also reflects the trend of gender equality. One important feature of social development is that people are no longer supposed to be confined to particular career choices because of their genders. For instance, women can join the police or become a fire fighter, jobs traditionally taken by men. According to a recent survey, however, the male-female ratio of teachers in kindergartens is still highly imbalanced: in every 100 kindergarten teachers, only 5 are male. Under this circumstance, hiring more male teachers helps to establish a sense of gender equality for children at an early age. By having both male and female teachers, children would realize that one can take the job he or she loves, regardless of the gender. To conclude, having male teachers in kindergartens is beneficial not only because it helps to build a compre hensive kindergarten education with unique male qualities and personalities, but also because it helps to promote the concept of gender equality.
