It’s important for us to work out effective measures to reduce damage and casualty. So what can we do concretely? First of all, it is vital to have a sense of prevention. As is known, most natural disasters are caused by human activities. For example, global warming is closely related to carbon emissions. To reduce the damage caused by natural disasters, we should first protect the environment and make sure that what we do now goes harmoniously with the nature. Second, be well-prepared. Improvement in early warning systems, such as techniques of earthquake prediction, is of great importance for people to survive in disasters. Moreover, people should also be well-informed of how to save themselves in an emergency. Third, the government should perfect the coping mechanism in disaster management. Stronger coordination is needed among all governmental departments and nongovernmental organizations so that we can better deal with all kinds of natural disasters. To sum up, besides thinking of relief work after a disaster, making full prevention, preparation and planning ahead of time are very essential to reduce damage and casualty.
