The latest developments in the field of space science will affect our lives in many incredible ways. One of these ways is that we will soon be able to live in space. With the success of the American space shuttle for transportation, and the Russian Space Station Mir, we now know that man can travel to and live in space for long periods of time. This is very important, as the survival of mankind may depend upon our leaving the planet, especially if we use all the planet’s resources or pollute our planet to the point where we can no longer breathe. Another amazing development in the space science field is the manufacture of new medicines. A great example is that just last year a new chemical compound was created in a space laboratory that will help to kill cancer cells. In fact, right now space science is looking into growing more food in smaller places which will allow us to produce with less cost. Just think, in the near future, a country like China, with 1.2 billion people would be able to provide inexpensive food to feed all of its citizens. The old difficulty of producing enough food and transporting it across our vast country will be dramatically decreased because of the small requirement to produce food for the local population. Finally, in the future, mankind will explore other planets and live on other planets. In 1997, the Hubble Space Telescope found a planet with an atmosphere similar to earth’s. Scientists say that we could live on this planet in the future. All we need to do is to develop spacecrafts that travel incredibly fast. Some believe that current research into magnetic/gravity drive engines will be quick enough to take us beyond our Solar System. It is possible when one considers that 100 years ago the fastest man travel was about 100 kilometers per hour; yet today the Space Shuttle travels 250 times as fast.
