答案 Development of Agriculture Agriculture is most important to the national economy and livelihood. As we know, agriculture centers around farmers. They grow agricultural and industrial crops for the food of people and for the raw material of industry. They raise livestock and poultry to provide people with various kinds of meat and eggs. They plant fruit trees to provide different kinds of fruit of the market. So people often say agriculture is the foundation of the national economy. Agriculture of our country has greatly developed since the founding of our People’ S Republic. But it is still backward as compared with that of the developed countries. For example, our per-unit yield is relatively low. The scope of our agricultural mechanization is now wide. The capability of our overcoming natural calamities is not so great. In such eases, if our agriculture is not further developed, the advance of our modernization will certainly be held up. Then how do we develop our agriculture? First, we must engage in farming work by means of science and technology and make full use of land. Secondly, we must carry out the nation-wide mechanization of agriculture to increase the total grain yield. Thirdly, we must bring all farmland under irrigation so as to strengthen the capability of overcoming natural calamities and achieve big harvests. Only by developing our agriculture rapidly, can we speed up the modernization of our country.
