Firstly, taking a gap year enables students to learn things which wouldn’t be taught in school. Besides, it enriches students’ social experience. Finally, young graduates can gain a clearer idea about their future development, so that they can be best prepared for it. However, opponents think it’s not necessary for students to take a gap year before going to university. To begin with, young students have little experience in dealing with emergencies, which may put them at risk and sometimes even endanger their future development. In addition, taking a gap year is such a costly thing that many students can’t afford it. What’s worse, some students may lose the opportunity to enter into a high quality university, which may affect their whole life. In my view, young people should be encouraged to take a gap year before starting their university life so as to have a better understanding of themselves and the world.
