答案
In recent years, there have been many conflicts over offering seats to the seniors. Opinions on this issue vary. Personally, I insist that offering seats to the old in public transport vehicles should be a voluntary act rather than a compulsory one. First of all, there is no doubt that special seats should be reserved for those in need, but when it comes to non-exclusive seats, it’s up to the passengers to decide whether they’re willing to give up their seats. Secondly, although Chinese society has had a long tradition of respecting the old and caring for the young, this does not mean that elderly people are entitled to force young people to offer their seats to them. Even if in some cases the special seats for the elderly are occupied by young people, I believe, effective communication will promote the final resolution of vacating seats. In sum, offering one’s seat to the elderly is a virtue that we hope will be further promoted, but it is by no means the obligation of young people to just give up their own seats.
