答案 Career Choice The above bar chart clearly reveals that college students have an idea about their future occupation and boys are to some extent different from girls in their choices. The most striking contrast is in the occupation of teaching: 45% of girl students would like to become teachers after graduation whereas only 5% of boys want to do this job. What boys like to do most is to become managers(40%)and the second largest group is to be businessmen(30%). Girls also like to pursue these two professions, with a percentage of 15% and 25% respectively choosing these two jobs. Absolutely, most jobs seem to have an image or a stereotype attached to them, often much to the influence on the job holders, especially college graduates. For example, in most students’ minds, to be a scientist is a hard job. Although they will be respected by others, the job itself is very boring and tiring. Besides, the career choice is also related to the gender and character. Teaching is preferred by females as it provides a more regular and purer life. Boys consider working as managers, businessmen more demanding and stimulating. One thing worthy of note is that the numbers of girls wanting to do business is not small. This shows that girls also want to do the challenging and exciting jobs. We should pay a little attention to the problem behind the phenomenon. On one side, we should encourage students to choose their future career freely according to their own interest; on the other side, we should pilot them in taking up an occupation. After all, they are possibly influenced by the false image of professions because of their young age.
