As we all know, Chinese athletes got 32 gold medals at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, which doubles that at Atlanta Olympic Games. It is really a great achievement in the history of Chinese sports. There are many reasons responsible for the great achievement revealed in the chart. For one thing, the implementation of the reform and open policy has greatly strengthened Chinese economy, which is necessary for the development of sports in China. For another, Chinese sports benefited a lot from the international exchanges. First of all, we sent athletes to participate in all kinds of international sports events which enable our athletes to get enough experience. Moreover, we have invited foreign professionals to come to China and coach our national teams. The above elements together with the hard work of all the athletes enabled our country to achieve such a marvelous progress in the past. So I think since the approaching 2008 Olympics will be held in Beijing, all the Chinese people should give complete support to make it a great success.
