Several pieces of paper are fastened together. Then, artists cut the motif with sharp, pointed scissors. In knife cutting, artists put several layers of paper on a relatively soft foundation. Following a pattern, the artist holds a sharp knife vertically and cuts the motif into the paper. So considerably more papercuttings can be made in one operation with knife cuttings than with scissor cuttings.
