PART TWO
Well, I guess on the whole it was quite interesting talking about setting and meeting objectives and coordinating projects. It’s just that I’d hoped we’d learn more practical things like how to motivate groups and manage conflict and make group communication more effective. Anyway, I was pretty tired by the end of the day and got in quite late because the centre was a long way from home. But that in itself wasn’t really a problem. I think one day would have been more than enough. I didn’t really understand why they needed two whole days. It wasn’t that expensive though, so I’m hoping I’ll be allowed to go on another course soon. There are some good writing skills courses around, I believe.
I feel a lot more confident now having done the course. The trainer gave us some really great tips on preparing more effectively. And I also got to see myself on video. There I was talking about our latest product when most of the time I was standing in front of the screen so no one in the audience could see my nice OHTs anyway. We certainly didn’t have any complaints about the price even though it was pretty expensive. But I can’t understand why they held it in Newcastle. It took me half the day to get there and I was exhausted before the course even started. We really should have found somewhere closer to the office.
I had a great time. We did lots of role-plays, mainly about delegating or dealing with interruptions, which I really enjoyed. And I think it must have done me some good. Even my boss has noticed that I’m getting better at prioritising my workload. And this week I managed to get my report in before the deadline for a change. There must have been about twenty of us by the time all the late-comers had arrived; which was about right for the group dynamics. The only thing that I’d change would be the refreshments. You’d have thought they could have provided more than just a salad for lunch, wouldn’t you? It wasn’t even particularly fresh either.
Originally, I’d wanted to do the effective negotiations course. But my boss told me this course would be more useful. You know what I’m like. Even when I don’t want to do something, I end up saying yes. Even now I still find it difficult to say "no", but at least this course has made me more confident about trying to stick up for myself. We covered a lot of stuff. But of course you can’t expect the trainer to do everything in just six sessions, can you? So we had to miss some really interesting topics. I was a bit disappointed, for example, that we didn’t do anything on body language.
The programme itself looked really interesting, which is why I went for this course rather than the assertiveness training one. And I guess we did have a few useful topics like writing minutes and preparing agendas. And we started looking at roles, especially the role of the chairperson. But all in all, it was really disappointing and so chaotic. We never really knew what we were supposed to be doing. But then the tutor didn’t seem to know either. She kept taking calls
on her mobile during the sessions and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was someone phoning her, to tell her what to do next! Good job it didn’t cost too much. Otherwise we’d have been asking the center for our money back.
选项
答案
E
解析
关键信息:从“the course has made memore confident about trying to stick up formyself.”及作者以前不知道如何拒绝,可知是训练决断能力的课程,而且作者本想参加“negotiation course”,但他的老板说这一课程更有效,可见说话者没有参加“ne-gotiations”而是参加了“assertiveness skills(决断能力)”课程。
