One man treads on a piece of banana peel and falls onto the floor. The message implied in this pic ture is that we are doing a great job in the construction of modernization, but there is still a long way to go in shap ing citizens’ moral cultivation. Due to the rapid economic growth we achieved over the past three decades, many places have been upgraded into modernized cities. However, if citizens are not as civic-minded as they should be in a modern society, the achievement of modernization will be destroyed—people litter, spit, even pee in public places, which will badly de face and disgrace the beautiful gardens and new roads. Therefore, when we are making efforts in the construction of modernization, we should also promote civic virtue. Civic virtue is of great importance for the truly success of modernization. We should endeavor to become civic minded people in order to make contribution to modernization.
