问题     In a recent recruitment fair in Wuhan University, graduates with rich family background were ruled out by a particular company, because they were regarded as self-centered and incapable. Do you agree or disagree with this practice of shutting out graduates from wealthy families in job recruitment? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.

答案 Equal Opportunities for Rich Kids Given the financial turmoil and economic instability, students are finding it very difficult to find a decent job. Graduates from wealthy families are no exception to this. That is why I believe that companies should not base their judgment on labels, but rather capabilities and personality of the candidates from wealthy families. To begin with, graduates with rich family background are not necessarily self-centered or incapable as the company claimed. The biased judgment against those rich kids might result from negative report of their misbehaviors and arrogant attitude, but there is no hard evidence to link them with poor capabilities and unsatisfying performance. A case in point is Richard Lee, the son of Li Ka-shing, the legendary Hong Kong tycoon. Even though Richard was born in a rich family, he was sent abroad and led a relatively poor life in his youth. Li deliberately subjected Richard into an arduous life to cultivate his perseverance and capabilities to cope with hardship. If Richard were to apply to the company mentioned above, he would be rejected and that would be a great loss to the company . In this case, it is fair to say that rich kids, if nurtured and guided properly, will grow into competent and promising candidates. Therefore, they should be entitled to a fair and transparent competition where they can edge their way into the desired company. Furthermore, the prejudiced practice against those rich graduates will send a negative signal across the society. By shutting out graduates born with silver spoons, the company is reinforcing the prejudice that rich kids are good for nothing and that their achievements are gained without effort. These poisonous ideas will add fuel to the flame in our society, where average people are holding grudge against rich ones. If this recruitment standard is imposed, then similar bars might be set to follow suit. For instance, universities may turn down potential students from rich families, claiming that they are lazy and unmotivated; business partners may close their doors to rich kids, accusing them of being uncooperative and irresponsible. It is inappropriate to form stereotypes of this kind and let them plague schools, working places and society. What we need is a common ground to hold us together, not overrated prejudgment to set us apart. To conclude, it is my belief that the company’s lop-sided attitude towards the rich graduates is faulty, which would have a ripple effect on the society. Graduates, rich or poor, shall be given equal opportunities to prove their abilities and potentials to employers.
