A: I think the most effective promotional strategy is advertising, since advertising can reach large audiences in a wide area. B: I agree with you on that point. Our product is a new product; we should tell customers that we have launched a new medicine and what kinds of diseases it can cure. Therefore we need enough advertising to send the information to customers. A: That’s right. We could have ads on television or in influential newspapers, through which many people can get to know our product. B: That’s true. We can also put up posters and arrange point-of-sale displays to attract potential customers. A: Apart from advertising, we can also promote our medicine by person-to-person selling and even door-step selling. We could have a presentation and invite persons from hospitals and drug stores. B: Yes, person-to-person selling would be very effective for promoting our product. In addition, we can also use sales promotion to boost our sales. A: I think we can offer promotions gifts to customers who buy our new medicine. Any idea for what gifts to offer? B: Well, we can’t afford too expensive gifts. I think we may give some small gifts like umbrellas or T-shirts, which are not very expensive and easy to be logoed on. A: That’s a good idea. And also raincoats with our logo. You see in rainy days, the logo on the back of a raincoat will be quite eye-catching. B: What about the quality of these promotional gifts? Do you think they should be of high quality? A: Yes. I think high quality would be good. Gifts with low quality would leave a bad image of our company to customers. B: I’m quite agree with you on that. I thinke these gifts should be made of durable materials, then they may bear our product logo longer and I think it is worthy to make high-quality gifts. Yes, free gifts can attract customers to try the new products, or have a better memory about the product. What do you think are the most common promotion methods? I think there are many ways like handing samples, free gifts, trading stamps, contests and etc. A newspaper or magazine article or television or radio broadcast can reach and influence a lot of potential customers but at relatively low cost to the company.
