W: It was reported that the Riverside subbranch of the Commonwealth Bank was raided yesterday. What do we know about it now, Frank? When did the raid on the bank branch occur? And how did it happen?
M: Yes. A spokesperson for the police claimed yesterday afternoon that the bank was robbed at 4:30 pm before the closing time, that’s 5 pm. Two of the bank’s staff were slightly injured but the rest are safe. This morning eye-witnesses were interviewed and police are trying their best to piece together all the information they have received. It is believed that there are at least three armed men involved in this case.
W: How much money was stolen, do you know?
M: It’s a total of approximately $3,500,000 in bank notes and traveller’s cheques, they say.
W: Well! Quite a daring raid, wasn’t it?
M: Absolutely. The robbers drove straight up to the front door of the bank in broad daylight and parked right outside during the fifteen-minute raid.
W: So it took them 15 minutes to get the money.
M: Well, basically yes. They knocked off the security guards and brought everything under control within 5 minutes and then collected all the money that they could lay their hands on...
W: Um...very efficient...
M: Yes. And the police arrived 20 minutes after they left...
W: Very different from the Hollywood movies...Heroes are always late in real life.
M: Yeah.
W: And how about the car?
M: You mean the black General Moter van they drove? It’s a huge van, according to eye-witnesses, driven by a black people or Hispanics.
W: Oh, again...
M: Mind you it’s not about discrimination.
W: And you said there are three gunmen...So is the driver included?
M: No. And they still don’t know whether there is anyone else behind.
W: And how about the driver? He must have put on a mask to hide his face when he was in the car.
M: No, not really. That’s why they looked "nothing special" until they left. And no special features have been identified so far from witnesses.
W: That’s strange. And I guess it’s because they look too "normal".
M: Yes, and that’s why witnesses could not tell for sure whether the driver is a black person or a Hispanic.
W: And how about the others?
M: Well, they didn’t actually fire the gun in the bank. The whole thing was quiet after the guards were down. But the police are pretty sure they had real guns and there’s no reason to believe they weren’t loaded.
W: How about the staff in the bank? Did they press the alarm?
M: Well, the manager was absent from his office at the time of robbery...buying some flowers for his wife’s birthday in a flower shop actually.
W: I can’t believe it! He is too romantic to be a bank manager.
M: Yes, and he is now in the police station under investigation. He argued that 10 minutes later he was back to the bank and saw what was happening and pressed the alarm bell right away.
W: But it was too late.
M: Yes. But fortunately, the police have had a couple of pretty good descriptions of the robbers.
W: Excellent! Anything special?
M: One of them is described as in his mid-twenties, and of Melbourne accent...short and strong, in white T-shirt, blue jeans, and sports shoes...
W: Sounds like students...
M: And there is a smell of cigar...
W: Well, that’s something.
