It is widely believed that the older generations of Chinese people were attached to their native land and unwilling to move to another place, unless natural and man-made calamities forced them to. Nowadays, as the economic, political, cultural and social development of China affords greater mobility to Chinese people, the young generations are more accustomed to moving in search of a better job, house, community, or even climate. As far as I am concerned, I would not put down roots in one place. Instead I would move to new places when conditions permit, just as the majority of today’s youngsters do. The reasons can be listed as follows. First of all, in large and medium-sized cities teeming with job opportunities, I would definitely not stick to one post in my entire life, and would change jobs if necessary. In this case, I would move closer to where I work to avoid a long commute, thus saving time for something more meaningful. In the second place, other places in which I haven’t lived always hold a strong fascination for me. As an old saying goes, the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence. Therefore, I would never cease to look for a better place where I can find a better job and lead a high-quality life. Thirdly, it is boring to live in one place all my life and moving to different places would inject vitality into my life. When moving to another place, I would throw away all the things I no longer want and buy something new to start a new chapter of my life. Last but not the least, by moving about, I can meet more people, make more friends and get exposed to more cultural practices and thus gain more insight into our world. From what has been discussed above, we may safely draw the conclusion that the pursuit of a better job and a better living condition, as well as the thirst for knowledge about unknown places provides some explanations for moving to new places. Besides shortening the commute time, moving can refresh one’s life and expand one’s horizon. Therefore, I would rather move to look for a more livable place with agreeable climate where I can land a decent job and live in a cozy house in a good community than stay in one place all my life.
