答案 Should There Be Compulsory Retirement Age? In China, there is certain compulsory retirement age, that is, a man must retire at the age of sixty and a woman at fifty-five. People In favor of this policy hold that old people, when over the hill, should not go on with their work any longer. On one hand, they are not eligible for their work any more both physically and mentally. On the other hand, they should make their way for the young generation. In my opinion, old people should not retire in a compulsory way. As we know, after a lifetime accumulation of personality and experience, old people are treasure to our society. If we compel them to retire at a certain age when they are still vigorous, their potentials are greatly underexplored. Besides, after they retire, many old people feel at a loss and become very lonely and even depressed. It is reported that the suicide rate of the old is on the rise in recent years. Finally, as human beings, old people should have the right to decide their own way of life. If they are physically and mentally suitable for the work and contribute more to the community than the young, why should they stop working? Therefore, as for the compulsory retirement age, the government should take consider the reality into consideration. If the old people are competent enough to go on with their work, we should put their potentials into full play, to stop them from working suddenly is not a justifiable alternative.
