答案 The table shows significant changes in diet of Chinese people from 2003 to 2007. Grain, which used to be the main food of most people in China, is now playing a less important role, declining from 49% in 2003 to 44% in 2007. On the other hand, the consumption of high-nutritional food such as milk, meat, chicken, fish has increased rapidly. The seemingly random fluctuations are actually closely related to one another. The changes in diet can be attributed to a number of factors. One factor is that people are much wealthier than before. With higher income, they can afford to buy more quality food. The fact that people have realized the importance of a balanced diet to their health is another factor because lack of certain a-mount of meat or milk will result in poor health. A further factor is due to the economic reform, meat, chicken, fish and milk, which were scarce in the past, are now supplied in large quantities. For all those reasons, what was formerly called "the basket of vegetables" has now become that of varied food. The analyses made above lead to the safe conclusion that these changes in diet indicate the significant social improvements. They are also the evidence of the improved economic conditions in China. If this trend continues, there will be greater changes in people’s diet in the future. And Chinese people will live a happier life.
