A point often brought up these days is that every young person wants to be famous "just for fame’s sake". A generation is growing up in a society that embraces the status of celebrity, even when some celebrities actually do not appear to " do" anything much. With days gone by, celebrity status was achieved by being "good" at something—and not just "good" , but one of the best in the game. Now, however, we have celebrities gracing the covers of magazines who do not actually seem to possess any particular talents at all. Take "Big Brother" contestants for example. Even though the fame might not be long lasting, for a period of time a certain percentage of the population wants to read about them. It is the era of the five-minute fame.
Perhaps there is nothing wrong with languishing in your five-minute fame. If you have your head on the shoulders and your feet on the ground, then why not go for it? But is it a different story when young people put all their hopes and dreams into becoming famous, instead of focusing on a traditional career? It sounds silly, but if you actually watch the auditions of many TV talent shows, there will always be contestants who admit that all they want in life is to be famous. Obviously, these are often the unsuccessful, but it gives us a glimpse into the psyche of some young people. Brought up on a diet of reality TV shows and celebrity magazines, many seem to have lost both the ambition and the desire to work hard towards a credible goal. They think they can "make it" without the drive and determination, long hours and sacrifices.
It’s not all about those who audition, either. Thousands of impressionable young people are fixated on shows like these, and become convinced that this is the path to a good life. Rather than nurture an ambition to become a doctor, scientist, teacher, etc. , too many teens assumed that success can be reached by being noticed in a TV talent show. Most of these young people will never have a shot at "making it", simply because they do not possess the talent needed. Some seem to exist in a state of delusion, oblivious to the fact that they are just not up to the marks. The truth is that over 100,000 competitors may audition for a TV talent show, and only a handful of them will make the finals. Instant rejection may come as a short, sharp shock—and even then, many declare they will not give up but return again the following year. Some even verbally attack the judges who put an end to their dreams, convincing the rejection is a gross misjudgment.

My View on Talent Shows Five-minute fame comes with the era when talent shows become one of the most popular entertainment programs. The phenomenon manifests young contestants’ mindset that they wish to realize their dreams via their "talents" without considering the constant hardship and endeavor behind the scene. It is worth noticing that some young guys are too absorbed in such shows, misjudge themselves and even blame others for their failures. It is hard to define the popularity of talent shows as a curse or a blessing. The young rushing to such a show expounds their aspiration to become famous. However, it seems a haste to conclude that most of them are just over passionate without considering their own conditions and their perspectives towards life. As it is shown, probably only 1 out of 10,000 contestants is able to squeeze into the finals, showing how competitive and cruel the contest is. Some even curse the judges on the stage and promise that they are doomed to come back next year. However, the figure cannot prove that all "losers" will consider the failure to be a big deal. Most of them will just walk away to continue their normal life, taking the show as a portion of their long life. From the perspective of organizers, there is no doubt that profit-earning is their top priority. So quite often the organizers may use tricks or gimmicks to raise the ratings and sooner or later the audience will be fatigued and lose interest in such programs, forcing the organizers to make improvements. That is how commerce is operated and market is running. Moreover, such programs are not mainly about education or science. Since the audience like to watch the shows, TV programs gain popularity, organizers make profits, and contestants may realize their dreams (by chance, as a lot of us may name it), it is no use asking too much from such programs.
